In this backgrund, this book highlights various aspects of China's emerging relations in these regions from strategic, political and economic perspectives, with an emphasis on the increasing geographic and geopolitical influences. It begins with a study of the guiding principles of China's foreign policy.

It examines China's bilateral relations in the above wide arc and also analyzes China's relations with USA, Russia and East Asia.

Work on the book was undertaken by a Core Group set up by ICWA, Whchich as headed by Amb. C. V. Ranganathan, former Ambassador to China, and former Convener, National Security Advisory Board, Government of India. Authors of the papers, who have expertise on the subjects, worked in consulation with members of the Core Group."
